Keyboards for Kids
Two concerts will be presented with GTCC singers and singers from middle school choruses from both towns. Saturday May 1, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. Westport High School auditorium Tickets $10.00 Saturday May 8, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. Tiverton High School auditorium Tickets $10.00 "Keys" to representational ''pianos'' will be sold between January 25th and February 8th 2010. Each key will cost $100.00. Proceeds will be collected at the schools. Checks should be made out to "Keyboards for Kids." Checks are payable to "Keyboards for Kids" and should be mailed to Keyboards for Kids P.O. Box 578 Tiverton, RI 02878 or checks may be dropped off at any Tiverton RI or Westport MA public school. What is is that makes school successful for one student and not so much for another? Ask yourself what made you want to go to school every day. Was it a favorite teacher? A Friend? A class? The hope of success? The fear of punishment? For many students, there is one thing at school that speaks to their heart. It can be athletics, art, drama, literature, or computers. But for many students, it is music. We are often first exposed to music, all kinds of music, at school. Whether in general music class, chorus rehearsal, band practice, violin lessons, or any number of other opportunities, we often hear music in a new way in school. Many students are motivated to learn how to make music for themselves and school is the place most of us began to sing or to play. For some students, music at school is what keeps them from dropping out. Help us to ensure that students in Westport and Tiverton continue to have the opportunity to hear the music. As Walt Whitman said, that music always round me, unceasing, unbeginning-yet long untaught, I did not hear. Make sure the music continues to be taught so it can be heard. The Greater Tiverton Community Chorus presents Keyboards for Kids a fund-raising project run by the GTCC to provide enough money to buy or refurbish grand pianos for Westport MA High School and Tiverton RI High School.
